Thuraya is out, SMS is in. While our Mali journey we got the impression, that we could sell our satellite phone. Even out in the bush we got SMS on GSM from home. But there are still a lot of reasons to use a Thuraya (or a more expensive Iridium). Unluckily our favourite non commercial Thuraya page with lot of tips and tricks is only in German (see German section). At least you can send a SMS to Thuraya.
